2009 PRESS RELEASES AND COVERAGE

4-29-2009 NYAGV Albany Day

Albany Day was a great success this year with more than 275 people in attendance mostly young people from around the state who came to speak with their legislators about sensible gun laws.

There was a lot for TV news to film, including a microstamping press conference, announement by Senator Smith of SNUG in Albany, and a Lie In demonstration of more than 250 young New Yorkers Against Gun Violence in East Capitol Park. The young people came to Albany from as far away as Buffalo and Roosevelt, Long Island but they all told the same story of too many illegal guns in their communities and too many young lives lost. NYAGV continues to advance our legislative agenda of microstamping of semi-automatic weapons which passed in the Assembly on April 28  despite complaints from the NRA.

But the real heros of the day were the many young people who spoke about communities devistated by gun violence and friends lost to senseless tragedies. One young woman from Brooklyn educated some of the gun enthusiasts who tried repeatedly to disrupt the day. The passion and talent of this young advocate was palpable to everyone who listened.
