Across New York State, most guns used in crimes originate from out of state.
1999 Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) trace data of crime guns indicate that 80% of NYC crime guns come from out of state.
1. Increase
funding for new Gun Interdiction program for District Attorneys. Add funds to the $500,000 level proposed by Governor Pataki
for District Attorneys
2. Support
the “Special Weapons Interdiction Field Team (SWIFT)”.

driving while intoxicated and improper gun storage).

Prohibit convicted violent felons with good conduct certificates or relief

E. TREAT GUNS AS A CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY ISSUE AND BAN THE MOST DANGEROUS TYPES OF WEAPONS. Firearms are on the only consumer product not regulated by either federal or state consumer product laws.

10. The agreement requires gun manufacturers to design guns with the latest safety features, only sell to authorized dealers, train dealers and work towards ensuring that manufactured guns are sold legally.

· Repeal of the law requiring individuals to possess a special permit to bring guns into New York City. (A.6367 – Bragman)
