NYAGV's work in the Bronx has been enriched and expanded to include new partners and new connections to schools, youth councils, and community organizations. The Bronx Youth Council, staffed by NYAGV and located in the office of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., has been a recent catalyst for youth action including students from more than 10 high schools in the Bronx.
The Bronx Youth Council, comprised of students from across the Bronx, teaches advocacy skills, gun violence facts and laws to young people from all over the Bronx who are provided with the opportunity to become peer leaders and advocates for change in their own communities. The students who join the Bronx Youth Council return to their community of residence with skills and determination to end gun violence and prevent the spread and use of illegal guns. The youth advocacy, expertise and momentum created by the Bronx Youth Council will be a tremendous vehicle to bring about change borough wide since members of the Bronx Youth Council come from all different areas of the Bronx. We want to educate the Bronx community about solutions for reducing illegal guns and gun violence.
