and illegal guns. Youth Against Illegal Guns will provide a collective voice of young people to promote solutions for youth who live in communities disproportionately affected by gun violence. NYAGV Ed Fund will train, organize, and empower young people to learn about gun laws and policies that affect them and mobilize the youth to speak about the effect of these policies on their communities. NYAGV Ed Fund believes we must create opportunities for youth to actively participate in gun violence prevention in their schools and communities.
New members who join Youth Against Illegal Guns will be asked to sign a ‘Statement of Principals’ pledging to support sensible gun legislation and agreeing to work with and invite other youth to join them in this new coalition. NYAGV Ed Fund will educate members of the coalition about actions they can take in their communities and provide public speaking and media trainings to youth interested in helping the coalition grow. With training the youth will be prepared to speak to community and faith groups, promote solutions, educate the public about gun violence and recruit additional youth to join.
Members of Youth Against Illegal Guns will develop media messages and responses to give youth greater visibility in policy discussions of city, state, and national conversations about illegal guns. The members will educate and train other youth and community members about facts, laws and policies on illegal guns and gun violence seeking new members among the faith based groups, community groups and youth to work with the coalition.
Members of Youth Against Illegal Guns will serve as liaisons and educators to community and faith-based groups to increase inter-generational and inter-organizational collaboration around support for sensible legislation to reduce illegal guns.
